Information you provide: email address (for sign-in and account creation), recipe book entries, grocery lists, journal entries, uploaded photos, and any content you choose to share with other users.

Information collected automatically: We collect your approximate device location (only when you enable the deals and coupons feature) to surface nearby grocery sales and food support programs. We also collect your device locale, country, and timezone for translation and localized pricing, as well as limited usage analytics (screens visited, feature usage) to improve the Service.

Photos and camera: With your permission, we access the camera and photo library to scan fridge and pantry items, ingredient labels, and dish photos. Images are sent securely to our AI provider for analysis and are not used to train external models.

Payment information: Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number or banking details — only a receipt of the transaction and your subscription status.

• To generate personalized recipe, meal plan, and deal results.
• To enable shared grocery lists, recipe sharing, and photo sharing with other members you choose.
• To process subscription payments and manage Premium/Family plan entitlements.
• To translate the app into your language and show prices in your local currency.
• To send a weekly analytics report to our team.
• To detect and prevent fraud and abuse of the Service.

Location access is optional and only requested when you open the Deals or Coupons & food support features. We use your coarse location (city/region level) to find nearby grocery flyers and local food assistance. We do not track your precise GPS coordinates continuously and do not sell location data to any third party. You can revoke location permission at any time from your device settings.

We request camera and photo library access only for features that require it: scanning your fridge/pantry, scanning ingredient labels, and uploading dish photos to the gallery. Images you upload may be stored in our backend to display them back to you and to the people you explicitly share them with. You can delete your photos at any time from the gallery. We never access your camera or photos in the background.

The Kitchen Compass offers a free tier, a Premium plan ($4.99 CAD/month), and a Family plan ($19.99 CAD/month, up to 5 seats). All payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. We receive only your subscription status and transaction receipts — never your full card details. Subscriptions renew automatically and can be cancelled at any time from your account page.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers, under contract and bound by confidentiality:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage hosting.
• Stripe — payment processing.
• AI providers — for recipe generation, translation, and image analysis (your data is sent for processing and not retained to train their models).
• Email delivery — to send verification codes and weekly reports.

We may disclose information when required by law or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted transit (HTTPS), Row-Level Security on our database, and role-based access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Kids Korner feature is designed for use under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. The app displays a parental supervision disclaimer before granting access to Kids Korner. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data (covered by GDPR / CCPA / PIPEDA where applicable).
• Withdraw consent for location, camera, and photo access.
• Export your recipe book and journal entries.

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including Canada and the United States. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA).

We use local storage on your device to remember your language choice, translation cache, recipe book (offline copy), and sign-in session. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., financial records).

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
